Killing the shiznit out of stuff you fear is also a perfectly valid response to fear.
I guess the last question is whether byakuya will even need bankai to deal with nodt. Before even with the fear he was able to strike at him and now he has supposedly return stronger than ever, I would even argue that with a boost proportional to renji's, so him needing bankai to deal with a volstandig quincy is not necessarily what is going to happen. I do wonder how exactly it was that byakuya cut through that thing with senbonsakura though. Was there an actual dome around? My first impression was that it was more of a metaphorical thing.
